How my Fused Glass and Clay Pendants are Made.

My fused glass pendants are hand formed ceramic clay and melted, fused glass. Each clay piece is cut or formed. Either a texture is applied to the clay piece while it is still soft by pressing an object such as a hand carved stamp, or a design is carved into it once it is dry. The pendants are heated at least twice in a ceramic kiln to temperatures as high as 1850 degrees F; the first time to strengthen the piece, the second time with glass applied to the top of the design. If the results achieved by the melting glass are successful, the piece need not be fired a third time. The stone-like finish is achieved with a ceramic stain that will adhere to the clay and emphasize the light crackle finish of the glass.
